There's been a bit of a furore in the emulation community lately centred around the PlayStation 1 emulator DuckStation, which has now seen two license changes recently.
@pgronkievitz I'm reading the license on the Creative Commons website, but from my understanding (I am not a lawyer), merely building from source is not a derivative. Even then if I did modify the code I am restricted from distributing, which if I am only building it for personal use is completely fine. I believe I would have to be able to build and modify the code personally if I was going to contribute back to the upstream.
@lime if you have the agreement of contributors, you can do whatever you want, it's your project, but anyone can also fork from when it was gpl and continue it
I think it's kinda understandable when your free software, is being used for cheap retro devices for a quick buck. Still wish there was a better way to handle this.

There's a lot of blog posts and news articles being written right now centred around Microsoft's plans for updates to Windows 11, and potential kernel changes, with some thinking this means big things for Linux gaming.
I suspect that it will be new API that security vendors like CrowdStrike will be encouraged heavily to use, but MS will likely need to maintain the way things are for some time.
I don't expect Easy AntiCheat and similar "antipiracy" / "DRM" software to take advantage of it unless the end up causing a similarly publicized BSOD.
I think MS has no intentions to change the way things are but are forced to put an act due to the crowdstrike incident, they will do a few PR stunts and everything will stay as it was, after all it wasn't that bad, the crowdstrike team just fucked up bad by not really testing things...
Thanks for this, I read the Micro$oft blog post last night and I was confused why this was being celebrated as a Linux win at all. The purposed plans are interesting in the context of security software.
