Yeah but imo there's a difference between "we are not actively helping" and "we are going to stop this working for no particular reason"
As folks have said, they could have enabled anticheat on Linux and they chose not to, or chose to ignore it. Either way, not sure they deserve my money for other games as I could lose access to them later at their whim.
But the anti cheat they picked can work on Linux ... they chose not to do that. There was an outcry from the gaming community and Rockstar chose not to respond.
It is partially down to Valve, but it's also down to customers to not support companies who don't cater to you.
I'm a gamer who plays almost exclusively on Linux (the rest is macOS, don't judge)... and whilst I'm not expecting firms to do full on Linux ports (though games that do earn a lot of love from me), I at least expect you not to deliberately or through negligence interfere with proton.
Things suck, oh well just keep throwing your money at them?
I'm not denying it sucks, but gaming is hardly a necessity so folks should be prepared to go without their fix of Destiny 2 or Red Dead Redemption in this case until those companies start paying attention to this market. It's 2% now but it was less than 1% a couple of years ago and will grow if we force it to. And god knows, the way Microsoft is going, I think Linux can do well in the next few years.
There are plenty of other developers who support (or at least acknowledge and do not hamper) Linux gaming so give them your money instead.

Do whatever you want. People keep going on and on about it like their opinion right now matters - it doesn't. Linux / Steam Deck is a tiny market, and GTA V was in no way supported to begin with. That's my main point and the reality.
Nothing will change that until Valve convince them otherwise, or the market is bigger.
Some fun news here. ZOOM Platform, a games store that offers DRM-free games both new and old (as well as helping update some older games) now offers a special tool for Linux gamers to run Windows games with Proton.
Valve released a fresh update for Proton Experimental on October 7th, that pulled in some needed fixes for various Windows games on Linux / Steam Deck.

I'm surprised I hadn't heard of this one before! A few developers have been building Nazi Zombies: Portable, a Call of Duty: Zombies demake powered by various enhanced forks of the Quake engine.
SKALD: Against the Black Priory is a retro-style party-based RPG set in a grim-dark fantasy world of tragic heroes, violent deaths and Lovecraftian horror. Released back in May, it now has full controller and Steam Deck support.
I keep looking at this one and Steam deck support really pushes me toward giving it a shot. Ultima 4-6 & Pools of Radiance are at the core of my being, but I don't know if they'd survive my modern gamer mentalities... Lets just say I aint gonna map on graph paper these days!
A bit of game industry news for you: in a pretty big win for Epic Games and their Unreal Engine, 343 Industries rebrands to Halo Studios and said the future of Halo will be built on Unreal Engine 5.
I really wish the best for everyone at Halo Studios, as I am sure they will do great if Microsoft allows them.
But this news is just sad. Another big studio that ditches their own tech in favour of Unreal Engine. I understand the move, as it will be easier for them to find talent, but I am *tired* of all the issues UE games have.
For any of you who work with image editing on Linux for any reason, you've probably used the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) at some point, well it's getting really close to the long-awaited 3.0 release now.
While Sony are actively making their PC ports worse with forced PlayStation Network accounts even for single-player games, some companies choose to make them better and now Grounded from Obsidian Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios gets better.
