the biggest con is probably the fact that it's VC funded, so one can party as long as the cash starts rolling in. However as soon as it stops, there is a serious problem, similar to what happened to Twitter, with ultimate collapse of communities.
Fediverse, because of its architecture, can exist independent of major funding.
Yes the AT protocol is supposed to be distributed, but there are still some serious questions about who will fund some of the major component it needs to exist.

for example, when mastodon released 4.0, they took away the feature where post permalinks would show you the page and replaced it with a thing where you have to wait for the entire app to load before you can see anything, and if you have scripting blocked, it refuses to load anything at all
it's a terrible feature that a lot of people hate, but even hometown and glitch-soc pulled it in because diverging from mastodon is a lot of work and they are both part-time projects without much developer resources

Did not end up working with games though, but I'm sloooowly learning graphics programming to change that.
