For anyone working in Japan or considering it: YSK your visa is NOT tied to your employer:
- You can freely leave and find another job.
- You can stay job seeking for the duration of your current residence permit.
- You can be self employed with local clients.
Some employers lie about this, don't fall for it, and NEVER give them your residence card! It's yours, not theirs!
Nobody is going to kick you out of the country just for losing your job. Know your rights.
As long as you follow the rules, pay your social security, pension, and taxes, and make enough to earn a living in Japan, immigration generally does not care about what you're doing.
There is paperwork to be filed and laws to follow, but as long as you do that, you can stay!
