My #Ubuntu desktop in October 2008. The desktop dock is AWN (Avant Window Navigator) - I still use Firefox, Rhythmbox, VLC and GNOME Terminal. Seeing Second Life and Picasa there takes me back! Can't recall what the Windows icon on the dock launched as I didn't use VMs. Wine, perhaps? But the most dated thing in that screenshot is the panel shortcut for xkill. Modern handling shows a 'wait or force quit' dialog when apps hang.
in reply to omg! ubuntu

it's a pretty bad photo of almost stock Red Hat 7.1 across 2 monitors (xinerama). I had both an AGP and PCI card in the computer to do this. Note the 15 and 17" CRT mismatch. From 2002. Also had a Pentium 1 running a firewall just for this silly single PC. Biggest waste of power, but all learning. Looks like 6.06 in your photo?
in reply to Chaslinux

@chaslinux That photo is such a vibe though. I don't think I've ever seen a dual monitor CRT setup before! My screenie is running Ubuntu 8.10 from memory, as it's one of the earliest screenshots in the blog archive and I started blogging just before 8.10 was released (and Ubuntu 7.10 was my first release, never got to try 6.06).
in reply to omg! ubuntu

Unfortunately, I didn't try Linux until Ubuntu 10.04 and I have no surviving pictures of this unfortunately, but I used it until 11.04 (and almost when 11.10 came out), and I remember thinking the default theme was better than macOS!

That laptop needed an hard drive replacement unfortunately...
