in reply to System76 • • •I'm pretty young (gen z) so my meaning of computing freedom is probably different to a lot of others. Computing freedom means being able to use the hardware an owner has in whatever way they wish, they can put a different OS on it, write a custom bios, take the components apart and put them into a custom case, and use one time fee or FOSS software. Basically they own the hardware and should be able to do whatever they want with it.

in reply to System76 • • •Computer freedom to me means being able to use whatever software you like on your hardware without being locked into something. Also being able to repair your hardware without having to re-buy everything. This is important because it doesn't restrain you to a single source and you actually own your tech.
Xavier Góngora
in reply to System76 • • •Computing freedom means ownership-of and expression-through both hardware and software. This can have many unfoldings, but its importance might convey the right idea: is the means to make computing technology be of service to the human soul (in the individual and collective sense).
#LiberateTheComputer

in reply to System76 • • •I believe computing freedom has many aspects. When it comes to software, for instance, we should be able to view, modify, and share the code. Ideally, we should be able to easily switch to different software, like by using an open, common file format, so that no one is forced to stick with the same software.
Hardware is just as important. It should be easy for anyone to repair using simple tools, and as many parts as possible should be interchangeable. Plus, all the information needed to rebuild the product should be accessible to everyone.
