Better Late Than Never: Linux 6.17 To Enable Intel DG1 Graphics By Default

Prior to the DG2/Alchemist discrete GPUs from Intel there was the DG1 graphics processor that served primarily as the initial developer vehicle for facilitating Intel's modern discrete GPU push. I just read @rasterweb ’s post about sharing code and it was poignant because I’ve recently stopped sharing my code. I’ve done this because I don’t want to keep feeding LLM’s, especially because one of my projects is intended to make them obsolete, but could be used in its incomplete form to their benefit.

I hate this, but I don’t know what else to do. Maybe I can share my code in physical form (a zine!) so that it’s very unlikely to be scraped into an LLM?

The #Forgejo monthly report was published ✨

Forgejo v12.0 branch was cut on 25 June, for a planned release on 17 July. Forgejo v11.0.2 was released on 18 June, addressing several bugs. Forgejo Runner v6.4.0 introduced offline caching support.

The minimum required Git version has been bumped and the search has been improved.

There is strong enthusiasm for translating Forgejo.

User following with #ActivityPub has progressed and a new #NLnet grant has been accepted.

@forgejo @lykso But, I wouldn't expect that federation improves the situation with LLM scrapers. Rather the opposite! #ActivityPub is a very open protocol and it will make it rather easier than harder for scraping instances to collect all the code and context.
I think, we need ethical, FOSS LLMs that value the author rights, e.g. crediting each bit where essential (non-trivial) information was taken from and, of course, obeying to licences! Thus, e.g., GPL code must be relicensed by GPL and not to be mixed with non-free (GPL-incompatible) code.

June flew by, but it did drop off a bunch of app updates. Qt Creator, Warp, Audacity, Plank Reloaded + more

#LiberateTheComputer
I believe computing freedom has many aspects. When it comes to software, for instance, we should be able to view, modify, and share the code. Ideally, we should be able to easily switch to different software, like by using an open, common file format, so that no one is forced to stick with the same software.
Hardware is just as important. It should be easy for anyone to repair using simple tools, and as many parts as possible should be interchangeable. Plus, all the information needed to rebuild the product should be accessible to everyone.
