ช่วงนี้เริ่มคิดใหม่กับเรื่องขบวนการซอฟต์แวร์เสรี แน่นอนว่าการทำให้คอมพิวเตอร์เป็นเรื่องสนุกก็เป็นสิ่งที่ดี แต่สิ่งที่ดีสำหรับซอฟต์แวร์เสรีควรเป็นเสรีภาพสำหรับชุมชนมากกว่าเสรีภาพส่วนตัว กล่าวคือ เสรีภาพในการสำรวจ ซ่อมแซม ดัดแปลง พัฒนา แจกจ่าย ควรเป็นลักษณะที่เอื้อต่อความร่วมมือในชุมชน บางคนอาจไม่ได้อยากสนุก ไม่มีเวลาสนุก หรือแค่ไม่ใช่แนว ผมเองก็อยากสนุกกับหลายเรื่อง แต่กว่าจะสนุกก็ต้องมีความสามารถสักนิด ยิ่งเก่งมากยิ่งสนุกมาก จึงเป็นไปไม่ได้ที่จะให้ทุกคนสนุกทุกอย่าง/ทำได้ทุกอย่าง เรื่องนี้คือข้อเท็จจริง
