I had the official case initially (but I then bought one of the first M.2 boards on the market, which was too large to fit in). But without an M.2 HAT attached, and the official cooler in use, I found the official case acted like a bit of an insulated oven! The Pi 5 is a toasty thing inside that. I ended up using it with the lid off, which lowered temp by a good 10-12 degrees. As much as people love the official case, I don't think it'd be super suited to Pi + M.2 + lid.
