How to Set Up UFW Firewall on Ubuntu 24.04 (for Beginners) linuxtoday.com/security/how-to…

🧵Here's two images of a street in #cardiff Wales.

During the heatwave of 2023 we commissioned Thermal imaging Ltd to record the temperature within the trees shade, & from the surrounding area.

The results directly illustrated the cooling effect of that single urban tree.

Linux Foundation Announces ‘Open Model Initiative’ to Promote Openly Licensed AI Models linuxtoday.com/news/linux-foun…

There’s a powerful moment that happens every time you build your own PC. After your chosen components are slotted into place, every connection is double-checked, and each wire is neatly tucked away, you close the case and power on your new machine. Then you (hopefully) see that first loading screen, as a proud sense of ownership washes over you. It can be an addicting experience, but until last week I’d never enjoyed that experience with a laptop...

You know how with Fedora Atomic Desktops and Fedora CoreOS you can rebase to other images with rpm-ostree? With that you need to have an rpm-ostree system to start and then rebasing becomes available to you.

What if you could do the same starting from a regular Linux system and migrating to an atomic one? That's one feature being explored with bootc that Ben Breard talks about in this video!

Is there a guide available how to install non-flatpak pkgs in Atomic distros? Google said nothing.
in reply to Askier

@Askier When you're looking up documentation, search for rpm-ostree. That is essentially what replaces the package manager in Fedora Atomic Desktops. For non-flatpaks what rpm-ostree will do is layer the package on top of the image, which is a way of installing but not the recommended way. However, sometimes that's what you have to do for certain packages.

Fedora Project

@ikkeT It is still experimental for servers. Even in the video Ben brings up some challenges, but it is something that is being worked on. A similar use case was presented at Flock, our contributor conference, last week.

For desktops it is less recommended because there are some files between Gnome and KDE that will stick around between rebasing. It results in weird inconsistencies with icons and such, but your home directory is good.

Wow, this is a neat take on the #deckbuilder idea. Fired up the demo long enough to play the tutorial and it was pretty fire.

Thanks for the tip! :pixelheart:
