And since Mastodon is also federated there is no protection against what any third party server does with your data, so that's arguably more dangerous than centralized hosting.
Thinking your data is safer on Mastodon is an illusion. At least Bluesky doesn't claim rights to use your data for AI training, unlike Twitter with the latest update.
For example, the default privacy policy of Mastodon (also used on this instance) says they may use your data "To provide the core functionality of Mastodon.", which is effectively a broad grant since the functionality of Mastodon can be altered at will.
