I haven't been very open publicly about this before, but working on Apple GPU drivers was, indirectly, the majority of my income until now.

Due to Luna's manipulation and attacks, I'm now left coasting on savings trying to figure out how to survive long term.

I'm not in imminent danger of being homeless or anything, but it's an unstable situation, and now I worry about how long my savings will last.

If VTubing and little gigs don't work out, I might have to get a full time in-office tech job, and that would mean the practical end of my VTubing career.

For over one year I've been harassed, threatened, doxxed, misgendered and abused by Luna the Foxgirl, author of Inochi2D.

Due to her attacks and manipulation of others, I no longer feel safe contributing to Linux GPU drivers, and I will be retiring my current model.

Since people have asked, Cyan and I do have a donation page:

Please only contribute if you can absolutely afford it! We are not in imminent trouble (yet).

the tech market is kinda bad rn (layoffs.fyi shows the extent of it). if i were u, i wouldnt wait to get some sort of stable income and would start searching asap

hopefully someone on #FediHire can work something out for u. im sure there are a lot of folks willing to hire someone of ur caliber

maybe u can do vtubing on weekends? hopefully it doesnt mean the end of something u love to do

@Logical_Error I don't think I could handle working full time on weekdays and then VTubing on weekends, that would mean no time off. VTubing is fun but still a lot of work and stress, and the kind of stuff I plan to do needs more than two overworked days a week... I'd burn out, for sure.

(sorry for this long response... didn't know how to make it shorter)

yeah i hear ya...

when i graduated college, i pondered the same question as u: can i do what i love without being sucked into the corporate world? for me that was foss. unfortunately, my answer was that i had to find a job b/c of the following reasons:
- healthcare in the US is tied to employment
- i need food on the table
- i didnt have the time/skills then to make a killer foss project that will satisfy these needs

Maybe you could start consulting for companies who want to use Rust in their kernel development?

At your knowledge level & name recognition it should be easy to do a few (10ish) hours per week for $350+ per hour

Unfortunately no, but (I hear) that Germany just invested $100B into becoming more self-reliant militarily, so there should be a swath of money to be made there, for direct military use or indirect (e.g. satellite launches to become independent of the US in that regard)
